Mission Statement
The DCMIA is a not for profit association of companies and individual members formed to encourage the growth and prosperity of the Dare County marine trades industries and to protect the interests of the same. The DCMIA works through education and increased awareness of issues that threaten the trades and individuals who may subsequently be affected.
Today the DCMIA is spearheading a grassroots campaign to improve the condition of Oregon Inlet and a new technical/vocational curriculum in boat building skills at the Dare County College of the Albemarle. The future brings more challenges, including the potential ESA listing of white marlin, affordable local housing and more funding issues for Oregon Inlet dredging.
Education
The DCMIA, in partnership with Alexseal Yacht Coatings, the Northeastern North Carolina
Regional Economic Development Commission, and the College of the Albemarle-Dare
Campus will sponsor their second two day Technical Training Seminar on November
29 and 30 concentrating on Marine Painting.
The workshop will be taught by a team led by Tripp Nelson and will cover paint prep,
painting techniques, clean-up, and proper care of equipment. To accommodate Hispanic
workers from local boat shops, Spanish translators will be on hand during the training
sessions to ensure the entire local workforce can take advantage of this opportunity.
The seminar will be free to all employees of area boat manufacturers, includes lunch
each day and will be taught at the Dare County public works department in Manteo,
NC.
Technical Training Series I - Marine Hookups was attended by 37 employees of 16 Dare County boat builders in March of 2005. The training took place at the new COA campus in Manteo. Contact
